Southern Sudan Peace Empowerment and Development Services

SPEEDS is a two and half years community based and socio-economical transformation project established to mobilize and engage the people of Southern Sudan in advocating, deepening and promoting peace,Unity,and sustainable development in the country.

SPEEDS will be implemented under the Public-Private Sector Caucusing in District which was recently launched during the 1st public dialogue on the United Nations Global Compact which was jointly organized by Public Opinions and Uganda Investment Authority on 29th September 2009 at Hotel Africana and presided over by Prof Ephraim Kamuntu, Minister of State for Finance, Planning and Economic Development on behalf of H.E Prof Gilbert Bukenya, Vice President of the Republic of Uganda. The project will therefore be important is deepening and promoting public private sector partnership in Central Equatorial Province and Torit State of Southern Sudan.

The project will be implemented in Central Equatorial Province and Torit State.

SPEEDS will work closely with the existing government bodies and development partners as well as Civil Society Organizations to attain its set goals and objectives. It is a strategic and deliberate initiative that focus on priority issues for the development of Southern Sudan. The priority issues include among others;

• Peace

• Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) which will include provision of safe drinking water through drilling of boreholes, community well-set as well as building of private and public toilets.

• Provision of educational items to schools such as furnitures,building of schools,phones,vehicles,etc

• Reconciliation

• Recovery

• Comprehensive Peace Agreement

• Civic and Voter Education

• Constitutional Education

• Participatory Budgeting (Transparency and Accountability)
